Ever Considered A Self Guided Cycling Holiday?

As well as our bike shop in Bathgate we also own and run Hooked on Cycling & Walking Holidays. This is also based in Bathgate near to the bike shop. If you are getting into cycling and love travelling and seeing new places then a cycling holiday may just be what you are looking for. It is a great experience and very different to a normal holiday.

You don’t have to have a great fitness level as we have cycling holidays for all levels of fitness. Have a look at our tour selector and see what holiday jumps out at you. If you need help then give us a call on 01506 635 399 and we will help you to decide what holiday may be best for you.

What is a self guided cycling holiday like?

Once you have chosen a holiday and paid for it in full then you will be sent your tour material which you should read carefully and query any questions you have before you go.

A self guided holiday is great as you can cycle at your own pace and stop as often as you like. You don’t have to rush, all you have to do is have breakfast and make sure your luggage is at reception by the time indicated in your tour material. Then you can head out, following our routes notes and maps. Each day there will likely be towns and villages to explore, historic monuments and interesting places to visit as well.

Always make regular stops, for coffees and refreshments; remember a cycling holiday is just as much about nice local food as well as visiting new places while taking gentle exercise.  You have a whole day to do you trip, no rush, many guests would be on the road by 9am and maybe not get to the next stop before 5pm. If you only cycle slow, say 8mph on most trips this is only 3-4 hours cycling per day, that leaves a good 5 hours at least for stops, visiting attractions, exploring villages and sampling local cuisine.

Your luggage gets delivered to your hotel so by the time you arrive you can relax before heading out in the evening to explore more and get dinner.

Should you experience any problems while out on your tour, you will have a local number to phone for help and assistance.  After a week (sometimes longer or shorter depending on the tour), your holiday will now be finished. You can head back and tell everyone what a wonderful experience you have had. We know many previous guests who take a cycling holiday each year but do not really cycle when at home, they just enjoy the relaxation and experience this type of holiday offers.
